Employee Spotlight: Oleksandr Lysenko
Over three decades ago, Oleksandr Lysenko discovered glass melting as a new field of work. In 1992, this specialist in stamp and press mould production joined the batch and melting department at the Hostomel plant.
From his early days working at the newly constructed furnace, Oleksandr steadily built his career. Over time, he became a batch supervisor. Today, he leads his team with a combination of hands-on experience and ongoing professional development.
"I started out with no specialised training," he reflects, "so I learnt on the job – through daily practice, by listening to my colleagues, and through constant self-improvement. And that’s my growth formula." As a supervisor, Oleksandr ensures the department runs smoothly, mentors new team members, oversees the precise dosing of raw materials, and monitors equipment integrity.
Although modern laboratory systems allow for the rapid detection of deviations in batch chemistry, he believes that experience is still essential. "Responsibility is key in glass melting," he says. "Raw materials are everything. Even a change of just a few grams in the batch can affect the end result. I always remind my colleagues that the components are not 'just sand'. In glassmaking, nothing is accidental."
What drives him most is continuous learning. He devours technical literature, explores online forums and regularly compares notes with colleagues across Vetropack. "In our profession, learning is a lifelong process. Even failures teach invaluable lessons." Oleksandr sees his personal values of responsibility, lifelong learning and dedication as closely aligned with Vetropack’s culture. He is proud to work for a company that encourages growth and values the contribution of every individual.
