Hostomel plant restarts second furnace
09.07.2025: At the beginning of June, Vetropack successfully started its second restored furnace (F83) at the Ukrainian production site in Hostomel near Kyiv. This marks another significant milestone in restoring the plant’s original production capacity.
The restart of Furnace F83 comes at a strategically important time. Demand for glass packaging in Ukraine grew by double digits in 2024, with similarly strong prospects for 2025 and the coming year. This move strengthens Vetropack’s market position both domestically and in neighbouring export markets such as Romania.
The Furnace had been severely damaged in the early weeks of the war. Over the past two years, the team on site has rebuilt the unit under extraordinary conditions: Large quantities of solidified residual glass had to be removed by hand, and the technology was restored piece by piece. Nearly three years after the damage, operations are now resuming.
“The restart of F83 is a significant step towards normalisation and regaining our former market strength in the region”, said Johann Reiter, CEO of the Vetropack Group. “We are deeply grateful to our Ukrainian General Manager Pavel Prinko and his team for their outstanding commitment under extremely difficult circumstances.”
To mitigate ongoing risks related to the war, the Hostomel site has implemented comprehensive safety measures and invested in energy resilience. Three powerful emergency generators ensure continued operation even during power outages.
