Vetropack to discontinue cullet processing in St-Prex by the end of February 2026

28.11.2025: The Vetropack Group will discontinue its glass recycling operations at the St-Prex site by the end of February 2026. After the closure of the glass production facility last year, cullet processing was continued as a transitional service for around 30 municipal partners in the region

The discontinuation of cullet processing is the concluding step in closing the St-Prex site: without a directly connected glass production facility, continuing to operate the cullet plant is no longer a viable option, either economically or ecologically. Today, Vetropack's processed cullet is already being transported to other European plants for further processing, which is not a sustainable long-term solution.

Cullet processing in St-Prex will therefore be completely discontinued as of 28 February 2026. “Although we're discontinuing cullet processing in St-Prex, we remain committed to glass recycling in Switzerland,” emphasises Johann Reiter, CEO of the Vetropack Group. “We will soon be presenting our municipal partners with concrete alternatives for their future glass recycling via some of our long-standing partner companies. Of course, each municipality will be free to either choose this solution or find its own solution. Our goal, however, remains to ensure a smooth transition.”

Employees whose fixed-term contracts had been extended for the transition phase have been informed that their employment will end by the end of February. A small team will then remove the remaining used glass during the months after.
